The best ones do the opposite. They choose the mode the moment demands, on purpose, and the moment bends to them. Calm clarity in the decision room. Sharp energy for the pitch. Deep rest at night. Same intensity, always. Different mode, every time.
We call the idea Performance Mode. This practice is where you learn it.

Where it started
In my corporate years, I walked into brainstorms with my head still in the last call. I made big decisions on my fourth coffee. I lay awake at midnight, still running the day. Every moment got the last one's leftovers.
I saw the same thing for twenty years in executive rooms. Brilliant people, one mode, all day. Then a decade in ultra-endurance sport taught me the opposite, because your body does not let you lie at kilometre 80. The mode you are in decides what you can do. And the fastest switch between modes is the breath. It is free. You were born with it. No app, no device, no room, no power outlet.
I have run my life on it ever since. Five years ago I took it out of sport and into work: the boardroom, the hard conversation, the long night. It works. The problem is not that people do not believe it. The problem is that almost nobody practises it.
Why a practice, not an app
Everyone has the app. Nobody opens it at 15:00 with a board call at 16:00.
So we built a practice. A place where switching mode is a booked, guided, repeatable act, forty-five minutes, on the way from one thing to the next. You do not have to remember, decide, or discipline yourself. You book it, sit down, and we run it. LACS Cascais is where it started. It will not be the only door in.
And we added the technology that makes the switch faster and shows you it happened. Light for the brain. A current for the vagus nerve. Red light for the body. A screen with your heart rhythm on it, so the mode is something you see move, not something you take our word for.
That is the whole idea. Breath is the switch. The practice makes you use it. The technology makes it faster and provable.

The science in the practice
I am not a scientist. Rebeca is.
Rebeca Sanz Barriuso is a neuroscientist and my cofounder. Her research background is heart rate variability: the number behind your best and worst days, what actually moves it, and what only claims to. Every protocol is hers, and she runs many of the Recharge Plans herself: the sequence, the timing, the numbers we watch on the screen, and the honest line on the Technology page about what each piece does and does not do.
She is also the reason nothing here is a gadget with a story attached. If it does not move the number, it does not go on the menu.
What we believe

Why Cascais
Between the sea and Sintra, five minutes from the A5, with parking at the door. The whole point is that you can come between two things: before the drive into Lisbon, after the last call, on the way home. A practice you cannot reach in twenty minutes is a practice you will not use.
And the name: you charge your phone every day. This is where you charge yourself.
The two of us
